we have a document due well prelimanry hand in is tomorw on the btech project of the semester : sustainable energy research centre. iam almost there but there are a few things that ineed to tackle and put into writing. the challenge for me is finding information that relates to the design, not always the case because when you design somthing its not always that one finds it from somewhere or can explain it rationally.. so putting everything and compiling it into a document including sketchplans, site analysis, precedents, the works, in such a time frame(even though we did get the brief way in advance) is a problem. especially because designing takes time, and you cant realy start on adocument once you have sufficient research..soo goodluck fellow classmates on tomrws handin..

animation on 3d max
my 3d animation for using 3d max for a cell phone kiosk is ready.. i tried my best..any tips on how i can improve it using movie maker will be great.. il have to work hard on my next video for a bigger project in the next week...
crunch time
just realised that we have less than 3 weeks to finish portfolio.. now there is so much to do i dont know which subject is more important to focus on. I think il have to divide my time and dedicate a day for finishing something off. and we still have to fix our previous handins. For computers my first interior on 3d max needs help, alot of help, for dsw i have to get my working drawings up to scratch, for construction i havnt really worked on it and neither have i fixed my previous work. so i think i should get that done this week .. its that time again sleeping 3 hours a day but i have to get it done.. good luck my fellow students

earth day!!
according to building green on saturday last week (may 1) marked the 40th aniversary of Earth Day. ithink it is a mildstone considering this point has been carrying on for so long and we too cooped up in our own worlds to realise this. its older than most of us and we still ignoring the impact and effects it has on the world. as candidates and future architects its important to realise this and incorporate what ever we design or conceptualise need to be sustainable, green, mainly becuase the 'choice' of materials we use or want to use wil affect the evironment. Our current projects are very much related and focused on sustainablity, cooling air, natural ventilation. so i do appreciate this day and i hope people get arround and do little things like saving water, electricity because we will regret it one day, maybe not now maybe next 40 years but its coming, coming veryyyy sooon!! So people have a little read on the article posted on buidinggreen.com, it may inspire you if not make you think alittle. happy belated earth day!

animation on 3ds max
3d max animation is not that difficult..its just the movement of individual objects to move wile creating the moving gets a bit tricky.but for the next project i think it wont take that long. it gets really interesting when one has to actually apply this technique to a real building.

this week has been very inspiring because of the graduation on wednesday.. makes you want to work harder.. even though this weekend is a long weeeknd doesnt mean we get to have a break entirely.. right now the main focus is to finish of computers rendering with 3d max .. and construction and detailing. the facade renovations or referbishment.
basically its find a a building between govan mbeki and russel road main street port elizabeth and give it a face lift using latest construction details or product from europe. i found a couple of buildings, two of which are museams one in germany and the other in chicargo ( clay and metal). the desicion hasnt been made yet but it has to be done because of the deadline. good luck on the rest of the class.. ideas are welcome

this blog will be mainly talk about the dkd assignement..of the cell phone kiosk or thta will be placed at the current campus nmmu

Aluminium is the main material that is used 80% should be made out of that material ..so there are diferent claddings and extrusions to make the final product

this is the final presentation with all all the 3ds that i drew up in autocad and imported it to 3dmax!! corel draw helped me edit the images a bit to make it more interesting

now for the next project but first graduation tmorw!!

the computer tut that required us to play around with lighting on 3d max was really a big challenge.. but it gets better once you have the hang of it..
take a look at layout and my attempt

using autocad to draw up the rooms and exported it to 3dmax and for each room played around with the lights and rendered

the enegy research project that we got as an assingment for studio work is progressing.. yesturday we went to a meeting with the guys from campus (existing research centre) the challenge i guess is to design a sustainable research centre that houses all the componets but in a more formal and 'better looking' sustainable way.. igot a couple of ideas

this image shows the framing that am thinkin about i like the fact that you can see throuht the panels and iam thinking of using idea of perforated panels to screen the engery components e.g. wind turbine or solar panels where the people will collect their data from

this is just an example of how i want to lower my level of placing the solar panels at a lower level so that you cant see them.. and the sit against a retaining wall at the prefered angle of 45 degrees..

this image basically jsut shows how i can create a spill out sopace or courtyard to seperate some of my function places bt still have them in one building so to say.. but am not looking at a buildiing as such as a whole but rather as scatterd spaces that connects with a courtyard...

this was the image from the internet

this was my final layout
this weeks computr and in was quit a fun but iretating project. I took the imagefrom the internet and duplicated it on using 3d autocad. the problems that icame across was funny enough not the lighting but hte materials that woudnt render especially the stainless steel legs from the chair... after printing it i realised that e,g the light in the middle was to big.. but iam quite happy with it besides the small mistakes but it has to be handded in so that was my main goal.

here is my final design solution to the previous project. The concept came from oil drums that is sits on a base, the base has two wheels where it can be moved around to desired location to start selling. the drums are recycled, with recycled plastic as shelves. also the parts that are cut out are resused as and attached to the structure for shade.
